Call to Conversation over dinner in Cleveland, Ohio on November 13, 2017.

A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 13, 2017, to discuss leadership and character.

A common thread to our conversation was how communication is critical in good leadership, both internal and external. You can lead with good communication from any level.

We noted that often we become most aware of good character in leadership once there has been an absence of it. Different people lead in different way, but good leaders consistently display integrity and honesty.

Phrases that came up several times during our discussion of leadership and character include: “follow your gut,” “always tell the truth,” “respect those around you,” and “always return those calls!”

One sentiment in particular resonated with our group: Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right thing.
