A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Saint Louis, MO, on March 1, 2018, to discuss Leadership & Character.

Our conversation regarding leadership and character evolved quite naturally with everyone’s thoughtful insights and willingness to listen and respond to each other. We learned a lot about each other and we became a pretty vibrant group.
We invited each other to think about our conversation in a larger context. How can face-to face and human connection strengthen all communities? How will promoting a culture of meaningful dialogue help Wake Forest prepare our students to lead that community?

We discussed how each of us have come to define character, one theme seemed abundantly clear: We all were influenced by others we knew, admired and who helped shape our lives. Their actions and words led us to want to emulate them. Each example was powerful and impressive. We further discussed a keen desire that today’s students may have the opportunity to know role models who will have the same sort of positive effect on them.
