Leadership & Character | Charlotte, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Charlotte, NC on April 30, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights from our conversation:
- Many times, character is shown in moments of crisis
- It’s what someone does when no one is looking
- A person of character has moral courage
- Sometimes it hurts or is not easy to be a leader of character
- Character doesn’t mean you have to be flawless or perfect
- It’s about doing the right things at the right time
As our conversation continued, we came to realize that sometimes it is easier to think of negative examples- when someone shows a lack of character. We discussed how our examples seemed to be first-hand experiences with people that were very close to us. We saw these twin themes emerge that allowed us to evaluate and think critically about the world in which we live today.
We concluded that we can’t solve a new problem with old math. And that it is our responsibility to teach and model leaders of character for current and future students of Wake Forest University. It’s organic to who we are and it’s transcendent and vital for our students.
