Leadership & Character | Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Winston-Salem, NC on July 24, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Many times, character is shown in small acts or in quiet moments.
- It’s what someone does when no one is looking or without the expectation of recognition.
- A person of character has moral courage, owns their values and speaks/acts. They are resilient, empathetic, take the time to listen, and are not afraid to act.
- It’s important to find that margin in our lives to do good and live our motto of Pro Humanitate.
As our conversation continued and we came to discuss our thoughts on leaders of character- a resounding theme came through about leading by example. That there is a ripple effect in one’s ability to inspire others to be a person of character and a leader. Whether it’s a mother, father, sibling, friend, co-worker, scout leader, or boss- there are so many role models who are influencing and inspiring our character and leadership even if they do not realize it.
We concluded that Mother So Dear too should lead by example- it is our opportunity and responsibility to teach and model leaders of character for current and future students of Wake Forest University. It’s organic to who we are and it’s transcendent and vital for our students.
