Community | Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Winston-Salem, NC on August 16, 2018 to discuss Community.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Community is something we all have greatly valued over the course of our lives.
- Community is often –
- Being known, loved, accepted, included, valued, supported, encouraged
- Done together with “one’s people” which may be defined by whatever commonality has brought you together
- Entered when invited, during crisis, via geography
- Enhanced by technology, yet technology can also be a prohibitor
- Community can be messy (ex. the Disciples) – “If you are not engaging on a deep enough level and getting messy, then it is not authentic.”
- This discussion on Community sparked in us the desire to –
- Intentionally invite and include others
- Make time to be part of community
- Broaden the definition of community and take advantage of small communities (ex. Work spaces)
- Be more present with people and with God
- Expect the mess when being present and be conscious to not have to be “comfortable”
