Leadership & Character | Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Wake Forest students gathered over dinner in Winston-Salem, NC on August 28, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Our group talked about the ways family, peers and even strangers exemplified good character. The examples involved common themes of being selfless, showing up for others, and having the courage to go against the norm or societal expectations.
- There is a difference between listening and hearing, and it is important to be open and willing to learn from others.
- Character is not only shown in grand gestures. Character is often displayed in quiet, everyday moments.
- Acting with character should become a habit. The group came up with a list of ten tips to be more intentional about acting with character:
- “Love love love” others
- Reflect
- Self-awareness – know you are fallible and will make mistakes
- Get out of your head
- Check your privilege
- Self-love – give yourself a pass
- Empathize more
- Say thank you more – show your appreciation
- Follow your own path
- Remember where you came from
