Leadership & Character | Chicago, IL
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Chicago, IL on October 28, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Character can manifest itself in many different ways. We learned of family members (grandparents, parents, in-laws and children), bosses, professors and Gurus. Each example that was shared contained such strong elements of lives lead with strong and abiding character.
- It was noted that character is often shaped by those we love.
- We spoke of varied degrees of suffering and how those we thought of with character appeared to have grown from their adversity. Also, an observation was made about our trying to be more empathetic so that curiosity about why someone would act in a particular manner can pave the way for compassion.
- We also discussed obstacles to acting with character. We decided that it all comes down to the circumstances we are faced with and that there are always challenges.
- There was a sense of commonality about our gathering. It was warm and it was, indeed, kind. With hope, this conversation will have given us a tendency to reach out to others and help build character and identify leadership with our friends, neighbors and those we yet know.
