Leadership & Character | Durham, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Durham, NC on October 26, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- So many of the responses that were shared identified leaders as having more of a servant mentality and leading by example. Leadership is more than a role; it is a mindset of conviction, gratitude and respect.
- We discussed how character is cultivated in everyday interactions of concern, empathy and kindness.
- Showing up – a simple, yet profound act of compassion and kindness.
- Standing up for what you believe is right, no matter the consequence. Being an advocate for others.
- Sacrifice and even failure are an important part of leading a life of character.
- Actively participating in a community of individuals that have differing perspectives can be an enriching experience. In our current society, it is so easy to quickly stereotype individuals based on social media indicators. The examples we shared showed us that it is worth taking the time to try and understand individual intentions.
