Career Development | Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Wake Forest Staff members gathered over lunch on November 14, 2018 to discuss Career Development.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We each shared the story of our first job and discussed the insights and lessons we gained from that experience. We spoke about the things we carry with us from those experiences and the things we have decided to leave behind. We found many common threads between our stories and felt more connected to people we had either just met or didn’t know very well beforehand.
- Many of us shared stories about learning to work with and gaining perspective from people who are different from ourselves – whether the diversity was in age, gender, background or thought.
- We discussed the advantages of being adaptable but decided that holding true to your values was essential.
- We talked about taking initiative and exercising an inner drive to prove yourself – taking pride in your work and using it as a way to discover and cultivate your true self.
- We agreed that skills are transferable and that the relationships you foster within your work environment are incredibly important. We all found value in the time spent together to learn more about each other and many of us expressed that we will continue to search out this type of connection with others.
