Leadership & Character | Asheville, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Asheville, NC on November 6, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- In our evening, we talked about our family, friends, community members and public figures, and the ways they exemplified and inspired good character and leadership.
- We talked about the importance of character traits such as kindness, compassion, empathy, generosity, strength, courage, conviction, integrity, honesty, graciousness, open-mindedness and resiliency.
- We also talked about character-defining moments that rise out of tension and opposing viewpoints with outcomes that often surprised us. We also saw character in action lived out in our communities in those unifying “rebels” who “go against the grain” – truly in the spirit of Pro Humanitate.
- Our takeaways included an acknowledgement and acceptance that character and leadership comes in different forms and will evolve throughout our lives. Despite the different perspectives on character and leadership across generations, there were many similar takeaways. Lastly, we agreed on the importance of acknowledging and affirming one another’s value, emulating those who demonstrate strong character and leadership, fostering community-building and having self-awareness around your impact on others.
