Leadership & Character | Atlanta, GA
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Atlanta, GA on November 29, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Each of our unique stories emphasized that good character often stems from humility, vulnerability, and integrity. We recognized the idea that success does not always equal good character and a great leader consistently does the right thing even when it’s the hard thing.
- We frequently spoke about the importance of recognizing one’s situation and having the courage to take advantage of it. Our stories often included individuals who rose to the occasion in times of difficulty for the good of the community.
- A takeaway from the evening was that leadership and character are not mutually exclusive. A great leader is often associated with having good character, but an individual with great character is a leader in their own right.
- We also discussed the obstacles that make acting with good character difficult and agreed that consistency in your character is vital in making a good leader. Despite difficult circumstances, a great leader recognizes their strengths and weaknesses and faces each challenge with courage and humility.
