A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in St. Petersburg, FL on December 2, 2018 to discuss Tradition.

Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:

Our conversation consisted of each person sharing their favorite tradition. This could have been a favorite family practice, holiday tradition, or personal ritual. For the most part, the traditions shared around our table took place with families during Christmas and there were a few moments the energy and anticipation surrounding the stories being told was notably higher.

The traditions we shared were less about the practices themselves but the moments surrounding them. It seems that traditions, at their best, do not return us to the places or memories they reflect, but take us on a to a new place, even when traveling the same path. Movies are an afterthought compared to the time shared with those we watch them with. Food is delicious, but the real joy is in the preparation. Arrivals are an end, but the drive is wide-open.

We discussed that this is what makes our traditions so special: they remind us of the past while propelling us into the future.
