A group of Undergraduate, Graduate Students, Faculty, and Staff gathered over dinner in Autumn Room with Professor Soriano on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, to discuss Arts for Social Change.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We explored what it means to be an artist
- Arts lays the foundation for engagement in other disciplines
- The group demonstrated a commitment to Arts endeavors and stressed the importance of courage and risk taking
- Art should be for everyone, not just the elite
- Audiences are a key constituency for social change
- We stressed the value of trusting yourself and producing work even when no one else believes in you
- Art occupies hidden spaces in our lives
