A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Atlanta, GA on January 29, 2019 to discuss Community.

Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:

  • Community is found in the home, within our families, work, churches and friendships.
  • Communities are places where we feel safe, to have humility, and shed labels. Communities are impactful when the people involved share the same goals and objectives but come from varying backgrounds.
  • “I know you, I care about you, I remember you.”
  • We talked about the impact social media and the internet has in our communities, how the internet built the paradox of “being together yet being alone.”

Takeaways:

  • Can we do more of this in our own communities?
  • Let’s grow more personal connections
  • Everyone needs community. We all need a safe space without judgement
  • Small communities transform large communities
  • We must shed labels and appreciate one another in our full humanity
  • One small step at a time can create change
