A group of Undergraduate, Graduate Students, Faculty, and Staff gathered over dinner in the Autumn Room with Dr. José Villalba on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, to discuss Community.

Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:

• Overview: Our conversation centered on how a community is most often created through the respect and understanding of others.
• Highlight 1: The feeling of inclusion is crucial for an outsider to join a community.  Small actions can have profound impacts in this regard.
• Highlight 2: Communities offer means of protection, advocacy, and the ability to be seen.
• Highlight 3: Sustainable communities are built on people of diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and occasional disagreement is constructive for the group.
• Highlight 4: We often become cognizant of our communities when we leave and miss them.
