Community | Kansas City, MO
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Kansas City, MO on January 16, 2019 to discuss Community.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We are all part of a community, whether we identify it as that or not. The communities we belong to and the communities we engage in evolve as we step through the various phases of our life.
- As Wake Forest continues these conversations, how can they help to drive conversations with the students, in small groups (resident halls, with professors)? What can be done to engage students outside of using social media and how can students be pulled away from social media and have dialogue on life?
- Through our conversations, one sentiment we all shared was the communities we are part of are comprised of people who have similar experiences as we do. Note this does not mean we always agree with the people in the community. Often times we are seeking a new community that is different than our “common” community. Regardless, as a group of people we have shared experiences and mutual respect.
- Through our conversation, one takeaway that was mentioned was though we are all busy with our day to day lives, we seek out communities that help us to grow and recharge.
- Everyone seeks communities and people that share common experiences. It is with these communities that we should seek out the differences in ourselves and others. As these differences are explored it may allow us to seek out additional communities or open our minds to additional viewpoints we previously would not have considered.
