Leadership & Character | Nashville, TN
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Nashville, TN on January 24, 2019 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Much of our discussion was focused on service, outreach, and communities coming together. We talked about small acts of giving and how they, too, are important. We reflected as a group on the 2010 flood that impacted the Nashville community, and how neighbors helped neighbors without being asked at all. We all agreed that Nashville was a generous and giving place, and it is important for the next generation to carry this torch.
- We spoke about quiet leadership– how you don’t need to “shout” to be heard, and about the importance of leading by example.
- We discussed the idea of moving awareness to action– it is good and necessary to be aware of injustice and challenges that communities face (ie gentrification), but how do we then take action? One way is to gather friends and family to continue these conversations, even when they are difficult.
- We noted the “generational gap” in the group, and the great value of having different perspectives come together around the table.
