Career Development | Newtown, CT
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Newtown, CT on February 5, 2019 to discuss Career Development.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Although each of our mentoring experiences were different, we agreed that good mentors are those who express a sincere and genuine interest in others. They can be protective, but always honest while exposing us to different views, approaches and styles of work.
- Mentors inspire us to take risks and push us to be our best, even if it means failing from time to time. In doing so, effective mentors will truly listen and ask questions as opposed to solely talking and offering advice. Such open conversations and thoughtful questions allow for us to arrive at our own personal paths and decisions, which can be very powerful.
- Mentor relationships can form organically, or as a result of a more structured program. They can also evolve into lifetime relationships and even friendships.
