A group of Undergraduate, Graduate Students and Staff gathered over dinner in the OPCD Suite on Thursday, March 28, 2019, to discuss Community.

Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:

During our time together, we shared personal stories that revolved around communities which we felt valued in. We discussed the ways that communities form both organically, and inorganically and how that formation can shape what a community means to us. We also talked about embracing the communities around oneself and how sometimes you must make yourself uncomfortable to be embraced by a community. Conversely, we talked about the dangers of investing too much in the thoughts and desires of a single community and how self-confidence and trust in oneself are paramount for quality community interactions. We discussed the ways that one may find gratification in a community and the importance of finding communities that value both you and your contributions. I thank you all for the vulnerability and trust you shared with us during this conversation as it allowed for a deeper and more meaningful discussion.
