Community | White Plains, NY
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in White Plains, NY on March 22, 2019 to discuss Community.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Authenticity, commonality and inclusion were some of the key words that came up during our discussion of what elements define a community.
- There is truly no better example of community than the one that brought us together on Friday night, Wake Forest. The experience of students is not simply one of learning in a classroom, but also living amongst their fellow classmates. Those experiences – where academic and personal lives intertwine – is where trust is built and where allegiances are formed. It is where lifelong friendships begin.
- We discussed the idea that building a strong community involves spending quality time together, having shared values, and combining work and play.
- There is more good in this world than the opposite; we are all alike in some way; appreciate what you see everyday. As we discussed, maybe let’s take a step and reach outside of our comfort zone the next time on the train platform to say, “Hi” and introduce oneself and in general, look to continue this conversation.
