Community | Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Wake Forest alumni gathered over dinner in Winston-Salem, NC on March 29, 2019 to discuss Community.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- From our conversation, it was evident that community can look different for each of us but everyone’s connections were able to be tied back to Wake Forest University motto of Pro Humanitate. Furthermore, it was discovered through our conversation that people are willing to listen to you as long as everyone is willing to be vulnerable and respectful with their ideas.
- Not having cellphones or other technology around allowed individuals to feel in tune with our conversation since no one could use them as a distraction from the conversation at hand.
- Some of the common threads that were shared when talking about community were: authenticity, sense of belonging, consistent communication and individuals willing to have long term commitments with each other.
- Being vulnerable is okay and can lead to individuals finding a community where they have a sense of belonging.
- “Listening can be empowering.”
