Leadership & Character | Statesville, NC
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Statesville, NC on March 19, 2019 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- There was an overwhelming sense of sincerity about personal examples of character and leadership, and mentors/people who exemplified the qualities we held in high regard. Leadership and Character seemed to go hand in hand as we dove deeper and deeper into the discussion. Both shared traits that were key: Strength of conviction/faith, calmness and rational thinking in the face of adversity, seeing value in others, expressing appreciation for others, being selfless, making an effort to do what is right even if unpopular.
- Character is a simple thing but can sometimes be shown best through adversity.
- One participant mentioned how leadership and character change based on culture and circumstances. Our conversation emphasized community service and serving others. Seeing value in others can help you see value in yourself.
- Family was an overwhelming theme when we gave examples of good character and leadership. We all seemed to be very fortunate in having strong family connections.
- We spoke about the need to take a strong stance on values, and to bring people together, rather than being polarizing, even during controversy.
