Leadership & Character | Annapolis, MD
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Annapolis, Maryland on April 11, 2019 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Character seemed to be our primary theme as we dove in our discussion. The importance for our children and students being able to witness character in action through their teachers and parents was critical.
- Impact of social media on values and what has become a new standard for how to approach potent adversity was a concern. Important to learn the benefit of conviction/faith, calmness and rational thinking in the face of adversity and experiencing positive role models who can exemplify value based decisions, even in the face of unpopular reactions.
- We all seem to agree that character is a simple thing but can sometimes be shown best through adversity. Importance of adhering to a standard, the Honor Code at Wake Forest was an example of a such a standard.
- We felt that our family was where we all developed our sense of character and that we were fortunate to have strong family connections.
- We spoke about the need to take a strong stance on values and to bring people together, rather than being polarizing, even during controversy.
