Leadership & Character | Pennington, NJ
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Pennington, NJ on April 1, 2019 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We heard that character is not something that is tangible or something that can be thrown away, but often an outcome of personal perseverance. In such moments we are able to withstand all and any pressure (or “heat”) for the sake of doing what is right. It requires one to be selfless, empathic and humble, regardless if you are an NBA superstar, a college coach, a CEO or a young student.
- Character can call on one to speak up for something – or someone – not because there is necessarily something to be gained, but simply because it is the right thing to do. It requires us to honor commitments, to give back and to appreciate our roots. Such actions reflect a strong sense of morals and core values that guide our day-to-day decisions and interactions, even if no one is watching. Character therefore speaks from the heart and requires us to be giving, which in turn inspires hope.
