Pro Humanitate | London, England
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in London, England on April 10, 2019 to discuss Pro Humanitate.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We each shared stories about how we have seen Pro Humanitate (big and small) first hand in our lives through our jobs, our communities, and in our volunteer work. We found many common threads between our stories and felt more connected to people that we just met.
- Many of us shared stories of how the spirit of Pro Humanitate drove our career choices, including seeking employment at firms that promoted time away to improve our communities.
- Each of us wanted to make an impact to those around us, even though sometimes, that impact might not be immediately known.
- We discussed some challenges to living out the Pro Humanitate spirit. One of the biggest challenges we discussed was income disparity and the struggles we see come from this.
- We talked about how listening, and conversations just like ours, are essential in making a difference in the politically-divided and tense world that we live in.
- It was noted how passionate everyone was about Pro Humanitate with a group realization that each of us can do more and are surrounded by others who feel the same way.
- We talked about Wake Forest’s network being harnessed for good across the globe and utilizing its strength to help those who want to be more philanthropic in their own lives.
- Finally, we highlighted the importance of community leaders in building the strength of their respective communities and instilling a spirit that encourages and inspires others to give back.
