Community | Williamsburg, VA
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Williamsburg, VA on May 15, 2019 to discuss Community.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- We heard many examples of the communities we find ourselves a part of: school committees, neighborhoods, support groups and groups where we share a common interest.
- We asked ourselves – What shared values contributed to your awareness of a sense of community? Our common themes were: Trust, Honesty, Not Judgmental, Respect, Tolerance, Acceptance, Kindness, Affirmation, Inclusiveness, Grace, and Forgiveness.
- A few memorable phrases from our evening were:
- “Neighbor John got Dec 6 as his assigned birthday.”
- “Crave to be loved, fear to be known”
- “Celebrate the uniqueness (of sounds in a symphony) rather than the sameness”
- “You are responsible not just for what you say but how you’re heard”
- “Be known for giving not for taking”
