Leadership & Character | Bethesda, MD
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner on June 10, 2019 in Bethesda, MD to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- As we shared stories of people who had exhibited good character, we spoke of their actions as being the scary, often the difficult choice. Doing the difficult thing.
- We also talked about character being about knowing the right thing, and then being willing to DO the right thing.
- We debated if character was exhibited by actions, or if it is the essence of who we are.
- We observed that character often isn’t one action or one moment, but is displayed over a lifetime of moments and actions
- We acknowledged that even when we know the right thing to do, there are often barriers to doing the right thing: convenience, money, time, relationships.
- And finally, we contemplated ways we might take our conversation beyond our evening together, including writing notes to those we held up as individuals who exhibited good character.
