Leadership & Character | Daly City, CA
A group of Wake Foresters gathered over dinner in Daly City, CA on May 23, 2018 to discuss Leadership & Character.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
Everyone shared wonderful examples of when they’ve seen character in action, whether through a historical figure, a family member, a friend, someone from college, a coworker, or a stranger. Some key words from the evening included: passion, belief, admiration, sacrifice, confidence, empathy, courage, and worthiness. A few highlights of our conversation:
- There is a difference between a mentor and a sponsor. We often talk about the importance of mentoring, but sponsorship requires a more personal requirement at stake and oftentimes involves leading with the heart.
- Leadership can come from the most unsuspecting forces. Don’t look for leadership, but listen and be ready for it.
- Timing isn’t always right for something large to come out of something small. But people of character will care enough to keep the seeds watered.
We spoke about some ideas we can bring back to campus and it was clear that everyone thinks it would be good to get students engaged in this conversation.
