Grief and Strength I Winston-Salem, NC
A group of Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Staff, and Faculty gathered over dinner on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, to discuss “Grief and Strength” as a follow-up to the Veritas forum.
Overview and highlights of our Call to Conversation:
- Overview: Our conversation centered on finding strength through other people and personal philosophies/religions in our darkest times of suffering.
- Highlight 1: Misery loves company.
- Highlight 2: There’s immense value in learning how to treat friends who’re suffering the way they want to be treated, not simply the way you’d like to be treated in their situations.
- Highlight 3: Sitting with difficult emotions is a necessary and fruitful process. Death is death, and grief over death is not something we should try to “fix.”
- Highlight 4: We ought to shift towards seeking wholeness rather than happiness to embrace the full spectrum of emotions life offers.
